Minor Triads

After Major Triads the next most commonly used triad is a Minor Triad.

1rst Inversions

When chords are built up with the Root of the chord on the bottom we say they are in Root Position.

Chords are named after their Root Note.

Notice that when a chord is in Root Position it moves up line, line, line or space, space, space.

If we take the Root of a Chord and move it up an Octave we have inverted (turned upside down) the Chord. This is called the "1rst Inversion" of a Chord.

Notice that the chord is now line, line, space or space, space, line.

2nd Inversion

A Chord with the Root note on the Bottom is in Root Position.

A Chord with the Root Note on the top is in 1rst Inversion.

If we move the bottom note (Root) and the middle note (3rd) of a Chord in Root Position to the top of the Chord we now have 2nd Inversion.

This will become space, line, line or line, space, space.
