Unit #11

Sixteenth Notes
If we add another beam to an 8th note we will get a 16th note.

A 16th note will get 1/4 (.25) of a beat.

If we add another beam to an 8th note rest we get a 16th note rest.

A 16th note rest will also get 1/4 (.25) of a beat.

Counting 16th Notes

Since 16ths divide each beat into four parts we count them:

1e+a, 2e+a, 3e+a, 4e+a, etc.

Dotted Eighth Notes

We know that a dot (.) after a note adds half the value of the note.

An 8th note (.5 beats) with a dot (1/2 of .5=.25) = 3/4(.75) of a beat.

An 8th note rest with a dot also = 3/4 of a beat.
