2/4 Time

While most music is grouped into sets of 4 beats, there are other combinations.

 

Another popular time signature is 2/4 time.

This means there will be two beats in each measure and a quarter note will get 1 beat.


Styles of music which use this time signature are Marches and Polkas.

Another popular time signature is 3/4

This means that there will be 3 beats in a measure and a quarter note will get 1 beat.

The Dotted Half Note

Placing a dot (.) after a note adds half the value of the note.

ie. A half note gets 2 beats;

half of 2 beats is 1 beat;

Therefore a half note with a dot is worth 3 beats.
